Church Staff

Scott Carter, Senior

Scott has been with Cherry Avenue as the Senior Minister since 2007 after serving successfully for the previous 15 years in the Richmond, Virginia area.  He spent seven years there, as a church planter in what is now Velocity Christian Church.  Scott has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Mid Atlantic Christian University in Elizabeth City, NC and a Masters of Divinity degree from Cincinnati Christian University.  He has over 40 years experience in the ministry. Scott’s passion is teaching and preaching and helping people apply the Word of God to their lives. He says, “To me preaching is all about changing lives through the understanding of God’s Word. I love to see that “Oh I get it now!” look on people’s faces.” Scott has been married for 40 years to his wife Pat. They have three grown children and three very intelligent and beautiful grandchildren.  Scott loves golf, baseball, and basketball. He has also been an official for the Virginia High School League in basketball, softball, and volleyball. His favorite author is C.S. Lewis.

Stan Martin, Associate
Stan is a recovering Preacher’s Kid who grew up all over (10 houses and 8 schools in three states) before attending James Madison University, where he received a BA in History. After spending two years at Mid Atlantic Christian University, where he met and married Christi, he got his Master’s in Theology from Cincinnati Christian University. Stan has been in Charlottesville for twenty-one years, five times as long as he’s ever lived anywhere in his life! He and Christi have two kids in college, so no, they won’t have fries with that.
Stan preaches, teaches, and leads the Celebrate Recovery ministry at CACC, besides being the resident Geek Squad. In addition to serving at Cherry Avenue, he also enjoys serving on the board of directors of Waypoint Church Partners and working with College Ministries of Virginia, where he serves on the oversight team for the Christian Student Fellowship at his alma mater, JMU. His hobbies include video production, spending time with his kids, and anything involving computers and electronic gadgets. He’s an avid follower of all sports (except NASCAR—sorry), but his passions are UVA, the Yankees, and whoever is playing the Red Sox or Tech!
